2 drivers seriously injured in truck-semi-trailer crash on Highway 1 in Manitoba

The drivers of a truck and a semi-trailer truck are in hospital with serious injuries following a crash in the rural municipality of Cartier on Wednesday morning, according to RCMP.

The truck driver lost control due to icy conditions on a bridge, crossed the median and crashed into a semi-trailer truck on Highway 1 around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, police said in an email.

The truck was traveling west on the highway and collided with an eastbound semi-trailer on the RM of Cartier, about 15 kilometers west of Winnipeg.

The truck went off the road and ended up partially in the water in the south ditch, RCMP said.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 1 at the bridge over the Assiniboine River near St. François Xavier remain closed.

Police continue to investigate.
