Murder charges filed against man accused of fatal Kansas City shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Murder charges have been filed against a man accused of a fatal shooting near a Kansas City home known to have had squatters in the past.

Documents submitted to the Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court have revealed that Myloe T. Doan, 21, of Kansas City, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a shooting in June.

He Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department says that shortly after 1:45 pm on June 2, emergency crews were called to the area of ​​E. 9th and Van Brunt Blvd. with reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found an individual on the sidewalk who was unresponsive. He was found to have been shot in the back and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Law enforcement officials said surveillance footage was reviewed and a dark-colored Dodge Durango with blacked-out wheels was seen arriving at the scene of the shooting. The driver was seen exiting the vehicle while appearing to take photographs of a nearby home before going out of sight for a short time.

When the suspect reappeared, investigators said he was found to have been chasing the victim before he returned to his vehicle. The Dodge left the scene about three minutes before the shooting was reported.

Law enforcement officials said a search warrant was executed at a home related to the investigation. During the search, several air pistols and 9 mm bullet casings were found. A neighbor reported that the homeowner had moved out, however, a man with a dark-colored Dodge Durango had been checking both houses.

Neighbors also reported that this same man, later identified as Doan, had previously confronted several homeless people who had attempted to squat inside the home.

Investigators said Doan was arrested in late July. However, an arrest warrant was not filed until Monday, November 4. As of Wednesday, November 6, Doan remains behind bars in Jackson County without bond.

An initial appearance was scheduled for 1 pm Wednesday in front of Judge R. Travis Willingham.
