On Wednesday, Lebanon officially filed a complaint with the United Nations over Israel’s deadly device attack that killed several Hezbollah members by exploding their pagers in September.

Filing a complaint with the UN International Labor Organization, Lebanese Labor Minister Mustafa Bayram said the attack was an “atrocious war against humanity, against technology, against work.”

“It is a very dangerous precedent,” he told reporters in the Swiss city at an event organized by the UN correspondents association ACANU.

The attack on the September device

The device attacks were a catalyst for the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which has turned deadly as the country launched attacks in several parts of Lebanon to destroy Hezbollah operatives. The attacks followed the death of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah along with other senior leaders of the terrorist group.

Although Israel has not claimed responsibility for the attack, Lebanon says it is “widely accepted internationally… that Israel was behind this heinous act.”

“In a few minutes, more than 4,000 civilians fell, including martyrs, wounded and mutilated,” Bayram said.

“We are in a situation in which ordinary objects, those we use in daily life, become dangerous and lethal. If left unchecked, this crime could become normal,” he says, adding that the filing of the complaint aims to “prevent this type of crime from happening again in the future,” he added.

Trump wins the election

Meanwhile, Donald Trump won the US presidential election, making a historic return to the White House. In his victory speech, the Republican leader referred to the war and said he would “end all wars” in the coming years when he takes office for the second time.

Hamas has said it hopes Trump will not “repeat Biden’s mistakes” and “blindly support” Israel in its war efforts. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has said a ceasefire agreement with Israel would not depend on the election results.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, on the other hand, congratulated Trump. He said: “We trust that the United States will support, under your leadership, the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.”
