Two arrests following Peterhead fireworks incident

Emergency services were called to Peterhead on Tuesday night.

Two men have been arrested after a man was hit by a van in Peterhead following a large fireworks explosion on Bonfire Night.

The 33-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics following the incident which occurred in the Aalesund Road area of ​​the city at around 9.20pm on Tuesday.

An area of ​​grass at the nearby skatepark was previously damaged by the explosion.

Police Scotland said men aged 57 and 62 had been arrested in connection with the incident and investigations were ongoing.

Ch Insp Steven McDonald confirmed: “Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a van and a pedestrian.

“A 33-year-old man was treated by paramedics at the scene. The driver of the vehicle left the scene.

“Prior to the accident, a large pyrotechnic device ignited nearby, causing damage to a grass area near the skate park.”

He added: “The incident is being treated as contained and there is no major risk to the public. A visible police presence will remain in the area.”
