Police ask UK prosecutors to consider charging Russell Brand

Detectives investigate sexual assault allegations against russell brand have asked prosecutors to consider filing charges against the former comedian.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed it had received “a number of reports of sexual offenses in London” and elsewhere in the UK following a joint investigation into Brand by channel 4 Dispatches, The times and Sunday weather in September 2023. The program aired extensive accusations, including some of rape and sexual assault against Marca.

The Brit has denied all allegations made against him, dating from 2006 to 2013, when the 49-year-old was at the peak of his fame working in Big Brother’s big mouth, kings of comedy and Big Brother Celebrity Kidnapping. TO Research commissioned by Banijay UK It was later discovered that the informal complaints about Brand were made more than 20 years ago on set.

On Wednesday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed The Hollywood Reporter that a file of evidence has been submitted to the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for consideration.

“As part of the investigation, a man in his 40s has been questioned by officers under caution on three separate occasions,” the statement said. These interviews concerned a series of non-recent sexual offenses which were alleged to have taken place in and outside London.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation continues and a file has now been passed to the CPS. We have a team of dedicated officers who provide specialist support to the women who have come forward. “We are committed to investigating sexual crimes, no matter how long ago they allegedly occurred.”

One of the women said Dispatches that Brand entered into a relationship with her when he was 31 and she was 16. Their relationship lasted three months, she said, and Brand had been “emotionally abusive and controlling.” Another claimed that Brand raped her in 2012 at his Los Angeles home, according to the Sunday schedule.

Following the Dispatches research, the bbc quickly removed programming featuring Brand from its iPlayer and BBC Sounds streaming services, saying it “assessed it is now below public expectations.” Channel 4 followed suit, while YouTube banned him from making money from videos posted on the site.

Brand attended three police interviews, two in late 2023 and one in January 2024. He was recently baptized and now dedicates much of his platform to his newfound Christian faith.
