Barnacle, Quint and DeCarli take lead in Petaluma council elections

“I’m very proud of the campaign we ran,” Brian Barnacle told his supporters.

Tuesday night’s election results in Petaluma show an early lead for Brian Barnacle in the three-way race for District 6, as well as Frank Quint leading in District 4 and Alex DeCarli with a slight lead in the District 5.

At 9:30 p.m., Barnacle had 42.4% of the vote, fellow incumbent MIke Healy had 32% and Lance Kuehne had 25.5%, with 43% of the votes counted.

Barnacle gathered with supporters at The Block in Petaluma on election night, just as he did when he was first elected to the City Council in 2020.

“I’m very proud of the campaign we ran,” he told the crowd there shortly after learning the preliminary results.

“Unless there are some major changes, I’ll probably do it for another four years,” he said.

Quint, who joined Barnacle’s party on The Block, said he was optimistic about his District 4 campaign against Jay.

“My election has been more low-key than the District 5 and District 6 elections,” he noted, “which for me, as a newcomer, has been welcome.”

Probably the most contentious race of this election was in District 6, in part due to differences over the Appellation Petaluma hotel downtown and the overlay district. Housing was also a major problem.

This year’s City Council elections marked this second half of the transition from general elections to district elections, with seats for Districts 1, 2 and 3 filled in 2022.
