Jason Kelce’s Viral Cell Phone Incident: Penn State Police Investigate

Penn State University Police and Public Safety are investigating the incident involving Jason Kelce who saw the former NFL star throw a caller’s phone to the ground after the person said a homophobic slur at Kelce when referring to his brother.

Penn State police spokeswoman Jacqueline Sheader confirmed the investigation to USA TODAY Sports on Tuesday afternoon, adding that the process is ongoing.

The incident, which took place outside Beaver Stadium on Saturday as Penn State hosted Ohio Statewas informed by university police. According to the police department’s daily crime log, an “officer observed a visitor damaging personal property” outside the stadium. The crimes were criminal conduct and disorderly conduct.

social media images It showed Kelce walking through a crowd as several people recognized him and asked for selfies. However, one person hurled anti-LGBTQ insults toward Kelce about his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

“Hey Kelce! How does it feel like your brother is a (expletive) for dating Taylor Swift?” the person shouted.

Kelce turned around. grabbed the person’s phone and stabbed it into the ground before picking up the phone and continuing to walk. Another video shared on social media showed the fan chasing Kelce and telling him to “give me my phone.” Kelce then appeared to say the same insult toward the person.

Former Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro center and current ESPN analyst apologized for his role in the incident before the Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. He said it “fell to a level it shouldn’t have.”

“Everyone has seen on social media everything that happened this week,” Kelce said. “Listen, I’m not happy with anything that happened. I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment, I chose to meet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing to do.”
