Lexington Powder-Puff Game Raises Money for Local Families

LEXINGTON — Monday’s pleasant temperatures provided a perfect backdrop for fun and lively competition.

Each year, Lexington High School participates in a football game, highlighting team spirit and camaraderie.

Students always look forward to this event, eager to create a fun and exciting display of school spirit. It’s a chance for you to come together and bond while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

High school girls play freshmen and juniors against sophomores and seniors. After the first game, those two grades face each other to see who will be the final winner.

The first-year players shared their excitement not only about participating in the powder game for the first time, but also about supporting such a great cause.

Lexington High School used its annual powder keg this year to recognize and help the Cramer family, who tragically lost their mother in a recent explosion at their home.

Rebecca Bigley, teacher and student council director at Lexington High School, explained her participation in the event.

“The purpose of the student council is to take student voices and amplify them into action. The student council usually tries each year to choose Powder Puff for an organization or group that needs it in some way,” Bigley said.

He noted that the student council brought up some different ideas for the groups they had helped in recent years. In the end, they decided that it was very important for them to take care of their own.

“The daughter of the family that lost the house is a staff member in our community and her grandchildren are in our district. The Cramer family also has children who are in our district,” Bigley said.

“Our community has done a lot to help them and it was just another way we could do our part to show support,” said Jackie Foster, Lexington Student Council youth representative.

“It’s just a fun, upbeat event for a great cause.”

Lexington Student Council member Emily Woods said the event was planned to bring the community together. The game created a fun atmosphere for the students while also helping their community members.

Woods said they also made custom t-shirts and the funds raised from the sales went directly to the families affected by the house explosion.

Proceeds from game sales will be added to donations made by the district to support families.

The overall goal was not only to raise as much as possible for those affected by such a tragedy, but also to shed light on how a community can come together when needed.

The game was a beautiful display of school spirit and community support, showing that Lexington High School students can come together and help.
