MOORHEAD — Police say a drug investigation that began in June led to the arrest of two men as they approached the Moorhead area on Sunday, Nov. 3.

According to a report released by Moorhead police:

The drug investigation began in June when local authorities learned that an organization had been actively transporting illegal drugs from the Twin Cities to Moorhead, where the drugs were distributed.

On Sunday, investigators stopped two men in a vehicle as they approached the Moorhead area.

During the stop, methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and morphine pills were seized, with an estimated street value of $15,000.

Moorhead Police identified the arrested individuals as Tyler Kania, 35, of Moorhead, and Laquedrick Lemel As-Sidiq, 34, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota.

The two were taken to the Clay County Correctional Facility, where they are being held Tuesday, Nov. 5, on suspicion of felony drug offenses, according to online jail records.

According to the Moorhead police report, As-Sidiq has a prior federal conviction for drug distribution in Minnesota with a gang identified as “Taliban/Young N’ Thuggin.”

Moorhead police said gang members frequently travel throughout Minnesota, including the Moorhead area, to distribute illegal drugs.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted the Moorhead Police Department in the weekend arrests, according to the release.
