Penn State police investigate incident with fan Jason Kelce after homophobic slur

Penn State police are investigating the incident in which Jason Kelce smashed a fan’s phone before Saturday’s Nittany Lions game against Ohio State, a spokesperson told The Associated Press.

Kelce was entering the stadium when a fan asked him how he felt about his brother, Travis, being a “Fuck dating Taylor Swift.”

Kelce then turned around, grabbed the fan’s phone and threw it into the street.

Kelce then approached the fan and said, “Who’s the f–k now?” several times.

The police department’s incident log includes an entry recorded Saturday in which an “officer observed a visitor damaging personal property.”

PSU public information officer Jacqueline Sheader confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday that the incident involved Kelce and said the process is ongoing. The report listed possible offenses as criminal conduct and disorderly conduct.

Kelce seemed regret your actions during his appearance on ESPN on Monday ahead of “Monday Night Football,” which featured Travis’ Chiefs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a rematch of Super Bowl LV.

“Listen, I think everyone has seen on social media everything that happened this week,” Kelce began. “Listen, I’m not happy with anything that happened. I’m not proud of it, and in a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate, and I just don’t think that’s a productive thing. Don’t really do it. I don’t think it leads to the speech and it is the correct way to approach things. At that moment I fell into a moment that I should not have done.

“So I think the bottom line is that I try to live my life by the golden rule – it’s what I’ve always been taught. I try to treat people with common decency and respect, and I’m going to continue to do that, even though I stayed short this week, I will do it in the future and I will continue to do it.

Despite Kelce’s actions, many on social media defended him. Instead, they found a problem with what the Penn State fan said, rather than the phone breaking.
