Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney says he was prevented from voting on Election Day due to ballot mix-up

clemson football Coach Dabo Swinney took time out of his preparations ahead of Saturday’s matchup against Virginia Tech to do his civic duty when he ran into a bit of a problem.

Apparently he had already cast his vote in favor of the 2024 presidential election.

The only problem? Actually, he hadn’t.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the football coach revealed that he planned to start his day at the polls. What you thought was going to be a quick “10 minute” detour, turned out to be a much longer process.

“I tried to go vote. I tried to do the best I could and vote this morning. They told me I couldn’t vote. It was quite an experience,” Swinney said with a smile, adding that he initially thought the issue had something to do with it. with Clemson loss to Louisville during the weekend.

“Damn. I got kicked out of state. I lost a game. We’re 6-2 and 5-1 (in conference), man. I got kicked out.”

Swinney went on to explain that he was told he had already voted by mail the week before.

“He said I already voted. And I said, ‘No, I can assure you I haven’t voted.'”

“Turns out Will, my oldest son, voted last week and they somehow messed it up, didn’t check his birthday or something, and counted me as the vote. So what was going to take 10 minutes took an hour.”

Swinney said he instead had to fill out a paper ballot and that a hearing would be held Friday to resolve the issue, a timeline about which he expressed reservations.

“It was quite an experience this morning. But apparently they’ll fix it on Friday, and Will and I (our two votes) will count on Friday. I don’t know if it will matter on Friday. I’ll do the best I can and be a good citizen and go vote, and sometimes doing the best I can is not enough.”
