Final Arizona election results could take two weeks, officials say

Election Day turnout appeared high Tuesday in Arizona, as voters cast their ballots in a competitive Senate race. The state is also considered one of the most competitive states in this year’s presidential election.

Election officials say it could take up to 13 days for results to be tabulated in the state. In addition to strong turnout, voters must decide numerous races. The ballot is two pages long in Maricopa, the state’s most populous county.

Election officials expect that about an hour after polls close they will have about 70% of the results from the more than one million people who voted early in this election.

Officials also expect record turnout in Maricopa County. It is one of the largest electoral jurisdictions in the United States, with more than 2.6 million registered voters. The county opened a record 246 polling sites on Tuesday.

Polls have shown that the race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is close. At least one voter in Arizona went to the polls without knowing who they would vote for.

“I came here undecided to be very honest with you. I think my vote is leaning toward Donald Trump, but to be honest, I’m still thinking about it this morning,” said first-time voter Jeremy Hernandez.

After voting, he said he ended up voting for Trump.

“I think given his past experience as president and, in my opinion, not ruining the country, I think he did a pretty good job. I think he understands people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state’s vacant U.S. Senate seat is up for grabs, with Democrat Ruben Gallego maintaining a slight lead in polls over Republican Kari Lake.
