Elderly man from Chillico, the man seriously injured in a morning accident

JACKSON, Ohio— The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Jackson Post responded to a two-vehicle accident with injuries early Tuesday morning at the intersection of US 35 and Savageville School Road in Jackson County. The incident occurred around 7:55 a.m. on Nov. 5, 2024, according to officials.

The crash involved a red 1995 Mack dump truck driven by Keith Manning, 40, of Wellston, Ohio, and a red 2006 Honda Accord driven by Joseph Tanner, 82, of Chillicothe, Ohio. Manning was traveling westbound on US 35 when Tanner, traveling east, attempted to turn left onto Savageville School Road. Tanner reportedly failed to yield and was struck by Manning’s vehicle. After the collision, Tanner’s vehicle ran off the left side of the road and came to rest in the median, while Manning’s truck came to rest on the right shoulder of westbound US 35.

Tanner suffered serious injuries in the crash and was initially transported to Holzer Hospital in Jackson by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services. He was later flown to Grant Hospital in Columbus for further treatment. Manning was unharmed.

The crash caused the closure of the left westbound lane of US 35 for approximately an hour while authorities conducted their investigation. The road has since been reopened.
