Middle Georgia poll worker arrested after sending bomb threat, FBI Atlanta investigates

On Monday night, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia announced that a Jones County poll worker was arrested after sending a letter containing violent threats to local poll workers, including a bomb threat.

According to a press releaseOn October 16, Nicholas Wimbish, 25, was working as a poll worker at the Jones County Election Office when he allegedly got into a “verbal altercation” with a voter. The next day, Wimbish sent a letter addressed to the Jones County Superintendent of Elections, claiming he was a “Jones County voter.”

According to the statement, Wimbish appears to have written the letter from a third-person point of view, complaining about himself as a poll worker, statingWimbish had said, “give me hell.” was “conspiratorial votes”, and “distract voters from the rally.”

The letter continued to threaten Wimbish and other poll workers, stating that “They should look over their shoulders” because he knew where they lived and warned that the young“get the punishment for treason with a firing squad” if they defended themselves. The letter also included threats of sexual violence toward election workers.

Wimbish supposedly ended the letter with a handwritten note that read: “PS boom toy at early voting location, burning cigarettes, stay safe.” According to the statement, he has been charged with mailing a bomb threat, transmitting false information about a bomb threat, sending a threatening letter and making false statements to the FBI. If convicted, Wimbish faces a maximum of 25 years in prison.

According to the statement, the FBI Atlanta field office is currently investigating this case.
