Arrested after teen cyclist seriously injured in crash

Two people have been arrested after a 17-year-old cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist did not stop and left the scene, and part of Banbury Road in Summertown, Oxford, was closed approximately between 08:20 and 17:00 GMT on Monday.

The boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains there in critical condition.

Thames Valley Police said a 51-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy, both from Oxford, were arrested in connection with the incident.

The collision occurred between the junctions of Beechcroft Road and Oakthorpe Road.

The man was arrested on suspicion of fraudulently using a number plate, failing to brake after a road traffic collision and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Detective Sergeant Tony Jenkins from the serious collision investigation unit said: “This collision occurred on a busy stretch of Banbury Road in the morning rush hour and caused the road to be closed for much of the day on Monday. Now it’s back-open.

“Sadly, a child was seriously injured as a result of the collision.”

He appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.
