The majority of Manchester United fans who took part in a wide-ranging poll would prefer the club to build a new stadium rather than redevelop Old Trafford.

The club has announced that results from an initial phase of fan consultation show that 90% are positive about the ambition to create a world-class stadium within a wider area regeneration project.

However, 52% of those surveyed, which involved more than 50,000 fans, would prefer the club move to a newly built stadium.

Around 31% wanted the redevelopment of the club’s current ground to go ahead, while 17% were unsure.
