Warning issued to music fans after multiple phone thefts reported at OVO Hydro show

Police have issued a warning to music fans after several phones were stolen at a concert at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.

Following a Sum41 concert at the venue on October 27, several thefts, including several mobile phones, were reported to police.

Investigations discovered that a suspect left the program in a vehicle after discarding a bag containing the phones.

Police tracked and recovered the vehicle and said the owners will have their devices returned.

Inspector Iain Sibbald of Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that police received a number of reports of burglaries which took place at OVO Hydro in Glasgow, on the evening of Sunday 27 October 2024.

“It has been established that a suspect left the scene in a vehicle, after discarding a bag containing numerous mobile phones.

“The vehicle was subsequently tracked and recovered, and the phones are in the process of being returned to their respective owners.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

The Scottish Event Campus said it has a “robust” security operation including “enhanced CCTV”.

“The SEC has a robust security operation for all events including a large number of hostesses on the ground, an event control room with enhanced CCTV and an intelligence-led approach, working closely with Police Scotland , to evaluate any suspicion of criminality,” he said. the spokesperson said.

“The venue is also part of the National Arenas Association (NAA) group, which allows us to share information about behaviour, activities and risks during the UK concert tour, allowing us to implement measures at specific events.

“We received a number of reports of phones being lost at the Sum41 event and Police Scotland is aware of a small number of reports of phones being lost or stolen.”
