Election Day 2024: Polls open across New Jersey for Trump-Harris battle, Senate race and more

It’s a big… no, make it huge. Election dayand polls are open throughout New Jersey.

At the national level, the former president donald trump and vice president Kamala Harris are in a tense race for the presidency on Tuesday.

Locally, there are several critical races, including the battle for the U.S. Senate seat once held by the disgraced Roberto Menendez and a tight race in the 7th Congressional District that could determine which party will control the U.S. House of Representatives next year.

A record more than 1.7 million New Jerseyans have already voted in recent weeks, whether through mail-in ballots or early in-person voting. For those voting today, the polls close at 8 p.m.

Here’s more information on what you need to know:

Polls in New Jersey are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.. Tuesday. As long as you are in line before 8 pm, you will be able to vote.

The same goes if you leave a mail-in ballot in a mailbox. The drop boxes are closed at 8 pm, but if there is a line at that time, you will be able to leave your ballot in the drop box.

You must be at least 18 years old and registered to vote. Check here to see if you are registered. If you haven’t registered yet, the deadline for these elections has passed.

Your polling place is assigned based on your address. Click here and enter your address to find out where you vote.

You can vote in person on traditional machines or drop off a mail-in ballot at your county Board of Elections office or at one of hundreds of drop boxes across the state before 8 p.m.

But it’s important to remember that mail-in ballots must be placed in drop boxes located within the county where you are registered to vote. If you leave yours in a box outside where you’re registered, perhaps because you see a mailbox on your commute to work, your vote will most likely not be counted, election officials warned.

here it is a complete list of mailbox locations. If you have questions, check your county website.

After you return a ballot, you can check its status at the state office. Track my ticket website.
