Berbatov slams ‘shameful’ Man Utd duo as he flags possible new signing

Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been “embarrassing” in front of goal this season.

The Red Devils have had a terrible start to the season with the Premier League giants managing just three wins in ten Premier League games.

Interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy was unable to change his fortunes on Sunday when Manchester United drew 1-1 against Chelsea in another disappointing display.

Manchester United They sit 13th in the Premier League table and only Crystal Palace and newly promoted Southampton have scored fewer goals than the Red Devils this campaign.

Erik ten Hag was sacked last Monday for his terrible run of performances and results, while Man Utd were quick to appoint Ruben Amorim on Friday to replace him.

Amorim will join on November 11 ahead of the next international break and there have already been rumors that some members of his current Sporting Lisbon squad could follow him to Old Trafford in January.

One of the most linked is former Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has scored 20 goals in 15 games this season, as Manchester United look to improve their scoring output.

And Berbatov appeared to hint at the possibility of Gyokeres moving to Old Trafford, he said. sky sports: “This guy, Viktor Gyokeres, is scoring career goals right now.

“So I think there is a special connection with the manager, so maybe we will probably see him in the United shirt.”

When asked if he would welcome the signing of the Swedish international, Berbatov replied: “From what he is showing right now, I think so.

“Our forwards at this moment are not producing or scoring goals. We are 18th in the league (in terms of goals scored so far this season), which is embarrassing for a club of United’s stature. So this is a position I would like to see improvement in.”

There have been reports that Gyokeres is not very interested in joining Amorim at Man Utd due to the uncertainty surrounding the club in recent years, with one outlet claiming that the forward does not want to move to the Red Devils because the club ‘disorganized, unstable and permanently on fire’.

Speaking after scoring four goals against Estrela on Thursday, Gyokeres responded to speculation over a move to Man Utd.

The Swede told reporters: “Go with Amorim to Manchester United? I don’t know. I’m here. As you can see, I enjoy it at Sporting.

“It’s nothing I really think about. I’m sad because he (Amorim) is gone. We wish him all the best.”
