Dodgers star Enrique “Kiké” Hernández, fresh off the team’s World Series victory last week, worked a “shift” at the Raising Cane’s restaurant in Alhambra as a cook and cashier.

The morning shift (serving customers in the drive-thru and at the counter) was quite a contrast to the idea of a star professional athlete sneaking out of town after the big game to go to a vacation spot.

But there was Hernandez, happily working a morning promotional shift at Raising Canes, greeting fans eager to meet a Dodgers hero. With the World Series victory still fresh, he took some time to reflect on an epic Dodgers season while munching on some Chicken Fingers and French fries.

“The way the city presented itself to us. “It’s incredible,” he said. “It’s really hard to put it into words. But the last few days, the last few weeks have been a dream.”

Hernandez was particularly instrumental for the Dodgers, making hits and timely plays that made the difference in the playoffs.

“So, I walk up to the plate and try to get a pitch to hit,” he said of his approach. “When I have a good pitch to hit, I put the ball in play and good things happen.”

Hernandez’s appearance drew a large crowd outside, where fans cheered him on.
