David Axelrod finds good news for Kamala Harris in poll

CNN panel on Erin Burnett Monday night’s show discussed the final PBSNews/NPR/Marist poll that showed Vice President Kamala Harris beating donald trump nationally from 51 to 47 percent.

“So I want to go back to the Marist survey for a moment, because what I found interesting is…” he began Lulu García-Navarro as Burnett noted survey “Harris is awake now.”

“He has Harris awake. But, you know, in the popular vote, in the popular vote there will be exactly nothing in this country as we know it, so I’m not even going to talk about that, but when, looking under the hood, there were 31% of the people . Respondents said preserving democracy was their top issue and then, at 25%, there was inflation. Now, if I’m the Trump campaign, I have to worry about that because it’s an outlier in the sense of where people’s heads are at. Yes, 31% preserving democracy is not good for donald trump”García-Navarro concluded.

Democratic strategist David Axelrod responded, “I think that’s complicated because you don’t know what percentage of them were Democrats and what percentage were Republicans.”

“It means different things to different people. That said, we haven’t really seen that issue come to the fore. Democracy is an issue that deeply worries Democrats and even Republicans. So I don’t know. I look at that and I see numbers moving in their direction,” García-Navarro responded.

“Can I make a different point in that survey that David Wasserman Cook tweeted today, and that was the interest of voters. There was a big gap between the interest that women expressed in senior cadres (ten, nine) and men. And it is very unusual that over the years they have asked themselves that question,” Axelrod added, continuing:

And this begs the question: women generally vote, 52% of the electorate is generally female. Could that be expanded a bit? Even a point or two that, you know, would make a big difference in this race.

Because my belief is that, in my simple mind, I’m going to look at these surveys and say, is the gap that she enjoys among women greater than the gap or even the gap that he enjoys among men? And if that’s the case, and in these individual states, she will win those states.
