Officers track Mesa shooting suspect to Tempe

TEMPE, AZ (AZ Family) — A suspect who opened fire on a man in Mesa was tracked and located to a Tempe neighborhood on Monday, investigators said.

The shooting occurred on Holmes Avenue, near Gilbert Road and US 60 Superstition Freewayaround 2:30 p.m.

Officers found a man who had been shot and took him to the hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses said they saw a driver in a black pickup truck leave the area.

Officers said they obtained a description of the van and the Mesa Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center found the driver entering the westbound freeway on US 60.

Officers found the suspect and arrested him in the area of ​​McClintock Drive and Guadalupe Road.

The video of that scene shows that it appears that law enforcement had to use a Grappler to get the SUV to stop.

No names have been published.

Police said it is an isolated incident and they are not looking for additional suspects.
