xQc Reveals He Co-Owns Kick and ‘Stand Up’ to Ban Dangerous Streams

Streaming sensation xQc revealed that he and other co-owners of Kick “put their foot down” to ban content that crosses the line.

Since its launch as a Twitch competitor, Kick has taken the streaming world by storm, hiring some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel, Amourantochess professional GM Hikaruand many more.

However, the platform faced quite a bit of scrutiny over the following year. Many streamers took advantage of the site’s laissez-faire approach to moderation in the early days by routinely producing controversial contentknowing they would get away with a slap on the wrist.

For example, in April, the creator of the N3on division was only briefly banned after a dangerous driving sequence with New York street racer Squeeze Benz ended in a hit-and-run.

But that was then. In recent months, Kick has intensified its focus, suspend Jack Doherty when he crashed his McLaren while talking on the phone and permanently ban Fousey after threatening to harm himself.

Talking to Logan Paul on IMPAULSIVExQc revealed that this sudden change in Kick’s philosophy is because he and other co-owners of the site demanded the company take action during a roundtable discussion.

When asked if he was worried that Kick’s content would go too far, xQc revealed that he was not, due to discussions that took place six months prior.

“We stood our ground and said, ‘This can’t fly anymore,'” Lengyel revealed before explaining that he had received shares in Kick when signed his 100 million dollar contract with the platform. “Being involved in what you do and saying, ‘I want this to be good,’ and putting all your energy into it and being completely committed, that was really important to me.”

The French-Canadian added that he and others told Kick: “You have to decide if you want to be the sleazy guy on the block or if you want to have a more refined product and really have a chance to do something.”

According to xQc, Kick CEO Edward Craven understood where he was coming from, noting that the site was “really difficult” at first with Ice Poseidon arrested in Thailand and other content that goes too far.

And while there have been some clips that continue to push the envelope, xQc says moderation has actually increased and the site hasn’t had any major controversies in months.

This revelation from xQc comes at an interesting time for the streamer, as in September he revealed that he was I’m not sure I’d give up Kick. once your contract ends.
