What to know before going to the polls this election day

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Alabama (WBRC) – On Tuesday, November 5, Americans across the country will head to the polls to cast their vote.

In Jefferson County on Monday, the board of recorders is working on last-minute preparations to ensure everything goes smoothly on Tuesday.

Polls will be open at 7 am.

You can check your polling place along with your sample ballot at Alabamavotes.gov.

Before heading to your polling place, make sure you have a valid photo ID.

Jefferson County Board of Recorders President Barry Stephenson said polls will close at 7 p.m. If you are in line at 7, you can still vote.

“After the last person casts their vote in a given precinct, the machines close and we close the election. That way we can get the USB sticks out of the tabulation machine and give them to the sheriff. And then it will load and we will see the results. It will probably be 60 to 90 minutes before we start seeing results once voting is over. As each survey reports, we will have more and more results throughout the night,” Stephenson said.
