Penn State’s James Franklin comments on Jason Kelce incident outside Beaver Stadium

Jason Kelce was involved in an incident with a fan who used homophobic slurs to describe his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, on Saturday while visiting State College for Penn State’s game against Ohio State.

During his press conference on Monday, James Franklin commented on the incident.

social media images showed Kelce, the former Philadelphia Eagles center and current ESPN personality, walking through the crowd outside Beaver Stadium. A fan started booing Kelce. The fan, who was wearing a Penn State sweatshirt, hurled anti-LGBTQ slurs toward Kelce.

“Hello Kelce! How does it feel like your brother is a (expletive) for dating Taylor Swift?

Kelce turned around, grabbed the fan’s phone, and threw it to the ground. Then he picked up the phone and continued walking with it. another video Shared on social media showed the fan chasing Kelce asking him to give him his phone back. Kelce responded, “Who’s the (expletive) now?”

Franklin, speaking about fans’ frustrations over Penn State’s 20-13 loss to Ohio State, said sometimes the frustrations “can go too far.” Franklin then brought up the Kelce incident.

“I saw something with Jason Kelce,” Franklin said. “Jason Kelce was going to come to State College. I wanted him to have a wonderful experience. I didn’t have the opportunity to meet him or see him. I saw something I wasn’t very, very proud of. I wish that didn’t happen.

“But also, in 2024, I love that with that person, their actions had a consequence. So sometimes it can go too far? We talk about passion and all those things being great, yes. “That doesn’t excuse bad behavior sometimes.”

Kelce has not addressed the incident on social media or publicly. His “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Travis, has yet to release a new episode this week.
