Stackhouse opened the family business in 2020, when he was 18 years old.

She said: “It will be detrimental to the flow of customers into the town.

“We have not recovered from the pedestrianization of Victoria Street and this is just another deterrent.

“In the last few years, about six companies have disappeared and we’re wondering if you’ll be next. We’re just trying to move forward and take things one day at a time.”

It comes after Dudley Council also increased its charges last month.

Dan Kibble, a public health student at the University of Wolverhampton, often uses the Broad Street park, which now costs £9 a day.

He said: “It’s already difficult to get in and out of the city.

“I can understand raising the charges, but doubling them is excessive. People are already struggling.”

Steve Russell said he used the parking lot to go to the bank once a week.

He said: “People aren’t going to pay for it. It’s ridiculous. I don’t see how it will save them money as people don’t park here.”
