    After the explosive season 2 finale, fans will be happy to know that The Diplomat season 3 is already in development on Netflix. (Warning: spoilers ahead!)

    The Diplomat could be the most worked political drama in the world netflix right now. With 173.46 million hours watched after the premiere of its first season, the streaming service has worked quickly to keep the show on top.

    Season 2 arrived in October 2024, teasing the shocking revelation that the attack on HMS Courageous had occurred from inside the house. As if that were not enough, the second season ended with the unexpected death of President William Rayburn, who died of a heart attack after hearing the news.

    That’s a lot to take in and leaves the door open for some big political plays in Season 3. Fortunately, the wait may not be as long as you think.

    Is there a release date for The Diplomat season 3?

    There is no confirmed release date for The Diplomat season 3, but there is good news: it has already been greenlit and new episodes have already been filmed!

    This is quite unprecedented, since Season 2 just aired on Netflix on October 31, 2024. In fact, the season 3 announcement came three weeks ago. before Season 2 even premiered.

    In the current landscape of canceled shows left and right, that’s an incredible indicator of how much faith the streamer has in its political thriller.

    When the announcement was made, Netflix also confirmed that new episodes were being filmed in London and New York City, so progress is underway!

    Series creator Debora Cahn said Variety: “After an incredible summer shoot in the UK, we brought London to New York. The best of both worlds: filming in Brooklyn. We love doing this. “We are very excited to be able to move forward.”

    Fortunately, the gap between seasons 1 and 2 of The Diplomat was wonderfully short: just 18 months. Considering that production on season 3 is already underway, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect new episodes on Netflix in early 2026.

    How many episodes will season 3 have?

    Creator and showrunner Debora Cahn has confirmed that there will be eight episodes in season 3.

    Fans of the show will have noticed that season 2 was shortened to six episodes rather than repeating season 1’s eight. as cahn revealed According to TVLine, that drop in episodes was initially their choice.

    “(Netflix) was not happy. They wanted the full eight. I was really tired. “It was a matter of time.”

    He added: “It seemed like there wasn’t enough time to turn around eight of them. There was a lot to do in what seemed like a short period of time.

    “If we had known it would be a year and a half before we were back on the air, it would have been different. Season 3 will have eight episodes.”
