Suspected mandrax traders arrested in Westenburg and Seshego

POLOKWANE – Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of two men and the recovery of drugs, firearms and ammunition.

Hadebe’s comments follow the arrest of two men in Westenburg and Seshego for drug trafficking and possession on Saturday, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

A 50-year-old man was arrested by members of the Provincial Organized Crime Unit at his home in Westenburg, where police found 30 Mandrax tablets worth R3,000.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old man was arrested for drug possession and trafficking in Chebeng.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect was found with 300 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R30,000.

“The suspect was also found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition. “Further investigation will be carried out to determine if the firearm is not linked to other crimes,” he said.

Ledwaba said the suspects would soon appear before the respective magistrates’ courts pending further investigation.
