40-acre wildfire burning near Evesham Twp., New Jersey neighborhood, 90% contained

EVESHAM TWP., New Jersey (WPVI) — A wildfire burning near a neighborhood in Evesham Twp., Burlington County, was 90% contained as of Thursday.

The fire broke out Wednesday in the Sycamore Avenue area.

Helicopter 6 was over the scene where flames could be seen burning in the brush.

The New Jersey Wildland Fire Service says that at one point, 15 homes were threatened by the fire. However, there was no damage to any buildings.

Officials said fire crews will monitor the situation until significant rainfall occurs.

“It makes it difficult because the materials that break down, like the swamps and things that exist in the forest, are dry. A lot of the lakes are drying up,” said Tom Gerber, wildfire section director for the Fire Service. New Jersey Foresters. Service.

That’s because it’s very hot and dry outside.

“We are in a historic period of rain. It hasn’t rained in over a month. We have been in intermittent drought conditions for the last three years,” Gerber said.
