It all comes down to Tuesday.

After more than a year of campaigning and weeks of early voting, the 2024 election will conclude with the polls closing Tuesday night.

Those polls will be open from 7 am to 8 pm on Tuesday. A list and map of Webster County polling locations is on page 2A of today’s edition of The Messenger.

The race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is obviously leading the vote and generating interest in this year’s election.

But Webster County voters will also elect a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, state legislators, three members of the county Board of Supervisors, a sheriff and a county auditor.

In the Fourth Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra is seeking his third term. He is being challenged again by Democrat Ryan Melton of Webster City. This is a rematch of his 2022 race, which Feenstra won easily.

All state legislative candidates in Webster County are Republicans running unopposed.

State Sen. Tim Kraayenbrink, R-Fort Dodge, is seeking re-election in Senate District 4, which includes Calhoun, Pocahontas, Sac and Webster counties. State senators serve four-year terms, and Kraayenbrink was re-elected in 2022. But redistricting after the 2020 census moved him from an odd-numbered senatorial district to an even district. In Iowa, even-numbered Senate districts are always on the ballot in presidential election years, so Kraayenbrink has to run again. He was first elected in 2014.

State Rep. Mike Sexton, R-Rockwell City, is seeking re-election in House District 7, which includes Calhoun, Pocahontas and Sac counties, as well as western Webster County. He is seeking his sixth term.

State Rep. Ann Meyer, R-Fort Dodge, is seeking her fourth term in House District 8, which includes Fort Dodge and eastern Webster County.

Webster County Board of Supervisors

For the District 2 seat, Supervisor Mark Campbell, a Democrat from Otho, is seeking his fourth term. He is being challenged by Republican Nathan Montgomery of Burnside.

District 2 is the southern half of the county.

In District 3, Supervisor Bob Thode, a Fort Dodge Democrat, is seeking his third term. Republican Clayton Bills of Fort Dodge is challenging him. District 3 is the eastern half of Fort Dodge.

In District 5, Supervisor Nick Carlson, a Fort Dodge Democrat, is seeking his third term. Republican John Cochrane of Fort Dodge challenges him. Carlson is seeking his third term in a district that includes western Fort Dodge, Clare and rural areas of northwest Webster County.

Webster County Sheriff

Sheriff Luke Fleener, a Republican, is seeking his second term. He faces a challenge from Deputy Sheriff Trevir Michehl, a libertarian. Fleener defeated Michehl in the June Republican primary.

Webster County Auditor

Auditor Doreen Pliner, a Democrat, will retire when her term ends at the end of this year.

Running to replace her are Democrat Krystal Lloyd, a drainage and real estate employee in the Auditor’s Office, and Republican Shaunna Abrams, a branch manager at United Bank of Iowa in Fort Dodge.
