Brother of Korean War soldier ‘very proud’ of memorial plans

Gardner said his brother would be “very proud” of plans to build a memorial.

“It’s amazing, I’m so proud that we can do something in the Forest of Dean that will represent the whole country,” he said.

Eight people are involved in delivering the project, including Anny Reid, a trustee of the Royal British Legion and chair of the board of trustees of the National Memorial Arboretum.

Mrs Reid served in the Royal Air Force for 30 years, so she is “very aware of the casualties and deaths” and “passionate” about remembering people who have fought for their country.

“I am very proud to have come this far and to have managed to achieve it because I think it is very important not only for the forest itself, but also for the families of the men who lost their lives in Korea,” he said.
