Attention SBI customers: These SMS and WhatsApp messages about Rewards points are fake and dangerous

State Bank of India (SBI) has issued a warning to its customers regarding fraudulent SMS and WhatsApp messages related to SBI Reward points. Through a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), SBI alerted users about scammers sending messages asking them to redeem reward points. SBI clarified that it never sends such messages and advised customers to avoid clicking on the links in these suspicious messages.
SBI offers reward points to its customers for every transaction. The value of each point is INR 25 paisa. These reward points can be used to redeem a wide range of products and services like merchandise, movie tickets, mobile/DTH recharge, flight tickets, hotel bookings and much more.

What the fake message says

According to the SBI publication, the fake message received on WhatsApp and via SMS reads “Dear Customer, Account: Yono SBI net banking INR Rs.9895 reward point will be today. Expired documents redeem YOUR CASH, click on the link -nct.short.gv/Me.”

“Attention SBI customers: beware of scammers.
It is observed that scammers are sending messages and APKs through SMS or WhatsApp to redeem SBI reward points.
Please note that SBI never shares such messages and APKs via SMS or WhatsApp. Do not click on such links or download unknown files.
Stay safe and protected!!”, says the message.
