Former Illini Kerby Joseph scores Pick-Six against Green Bay

With the Detroit Lions up 10-3 against the Green Bay Packers with less than a minute left before halftime in their Sunday afternoon game, the visiting Lions were hoping to make one more stop after limiting the Packers to just one field in the first half. Goal at Lambeau Field.

Just as he has done all season for the NFC North-leading Lions, defensive back Kerby Joseph arrived just in time.

On second-and-2 at the Packers’ 38-yard line, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love was forced back by a Detroit charge. Looking to avoid a sack and hoping running back Josh Jacobs could turn a short completion into a solid gain, Love aimed and shot, but never hit the mark.

That’s because Joseph, a former Illini, was already in the backfield, having attacked from his safety spot to intercept him and drag him the other direction, intact, for a score.

With a pick-six on his sixth pick of the season (yes, you see what we did there), Joseph is now tied for the NFL lead in interceptions.

In a matchup to determine the division leader, Joseph opened the game, extending the Lions’ lead to 17-3, which they took advantage of until halftime.

Love started the game questionable due to a groin injury and, despite appearing to struggle with a limp in the first half, is expected to return to action in the second half.
