23 people booked as Panchayat election clashes continue in Mohali

In one of the cases, the victim Jai Kishan, 36, from Kurari village, told police that while he was at his house, he was attacked by the group with sharp weapons after they had previously threatened him.

Even 18 days after the Panchayat elections ended, clashes between candidates continue. The Mohali police on Saturday arrested 23 people involved in the clashes.

Victim Jai Kishan, 36, from Kurari village, told police that while he was at his house, he was attacked by the group with sharp weapons after they had previously threatened him. “They also attacked my wife, who came to rescue me,” Kishan said. The accused were prosecuted under various sections of the BNS, including attempted murder.

In the second case, two persons were booked for assaulting the husband of a newly elected panch in Durali village. The victim Satnam Singh, 41, told the police that on Friday, the accused, after insulting him, chased him and allegedly assaulted him. When his brother tried to save him, they also attacked him, he said. The accused were booked in different sections of the BNS.

In the third case, Sadar Kharar police arrested six people. The victim Balwinder Singh told the police that when he and his brother Bhupinder Singh came out of their house to watch a victory march of the winning candidate, the accused attacked them with sharp weapons. The accused also allegedly attacked their uncle after he came to their rescue. The victims, after being admitted to the Kharar civil hospital, later lodged a police complaint.

In the fourth case, Sadar Kharar police on Saturday arrested three men and an unidentified woman for assaulting two men from Chando Gobindgarh village. Victim Bhagwant Singh, 27, said the accused attacked him and his friend Harjot Singh after his father won the sarpanch elections. The victims were admitted to Kharar civil hospital for treatment.
