Iran threatens to use more powerful warheads against Israel in next attack: report

Iranian officials have warned that they are planning the country’s next attack using warheads more powerful than any weapon previously used in attacks against Israel, despite US warnings against a counterattack on the country, according to reports.

Israel attacked Iran on October 26, targeting critical military infrastructure. Israel’s attack came in response to a wave of about 200 missiles launched from Iran towards Israel on October 1.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel has refrained from attacking nuclear and oil facilities in Iran, which are essential to its security. Israeli officials have said the logic could change.

Iranian and Arab diplomats reportedly said their conventional army could be involved in future attacks against Israel, after losing four soldiers and one civilian in Israel’s most recent attack. But using the conventional army does not necessarily mean that troops would be deployed, but rather it could mean that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which normally handles Israeli security measures, would not be able to act alone.

Arab and Iranian officials also said Iran does not plan to limit its response to drones and missiles, as in previous attacks. Any missile used in the future, officials added, would have more powerful warheads.

In the Oct. 1 attack, the WSJ reported, Iran said it primarily used four different types of medium-range ballistic missiles.

Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), told Fox News Digital that the challenge in flagging an attack is that it must be mutually intelligible. He said any successful attack, like Israel’s in October, which was designed to stop escalation, may be perceived by the Iranian regime as a snub that must be responded to.

“Assessments by Iranian media and officials have gone from trying to downplay the attack to using it to show off and threaten revenge,” Taleblu said. “Make no mistake, Tehran still has the ability to respond. The Islamic Republic can still fire many more projectiles and with heavier warheads than those used in its first two direct attacks against Israel. To escalate without air defenses is to lead with chin or “putting the pieces of the puzzle in place to justify a step toward the development of atomic weapons.”

On Saturday, Iran claimed it is capable of building a nuclear weapon as Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pledged a “heartbreaking” response to actions by both Israel and the United States on Saturday.

Kamal Kharrazi, a senior adviser to Khamenei, issued a warning about Iran’s nuclear capabilities on Friday, saying the country could be prepared to alter its policies on the use of nuclear weapons if the nation faces an existential threat.

“If an existential threat arises, Iran will modify its nuclear doctrine, we have the capacity to build weapons and we do not have any problems in this regard,” Kharrazi told Lebanese media.

The threat from Iran remains to be seen.

The WSJ also reported that the Iranian official said he does not want to influence the US election with the attack, adding that any response to Israel’s October 26 attack would come after election day on Tuesday, but before the winner of the presidential elections takes office in January.
