Dandadan Pikmin Sounds Discovered

Dandadan Fans couldn’t help but notice the smaller sounds heard throughout the opening theme and joked that they could even be Pikmin noises.. This helped the opening theme reach a whole new level of virality in its first few weeks, but Dankidydan on Reddit discovered that the source of these sounds comes from a very old song released in 1915. Originally performed by Billy Murray, the lyrics to “I’ve Been Floating Down the Old Green River” has been cut, sped up, and used in “Otonoke” by Creepy Nuts.

In particular, the letters used are “…the schooners passed by” and “The ship was wrecked.” These bits have been chopped, sped up and raised in pitch to result in the “Pikmin” type noise that attracted fans. But thanks to the last unedited line that Dankidydan points out on Reddit, “The Captain and the Crew” was what allowed the fan to discover the source of the samples in the first place. It’s such a deep song that fans probably never would have realized otherwise. and it’s going to show how many layers there are actually in Dandadanthe opening.

Why this song?

Creepy Nuts most likely has a great explanation and thought process on why they chose this song as a sample for “Otonoke, they still have to fully explain it,” but at first glance, “I’ve Been Floating Down the Green River” is a pretty dark choice. The song was originally performed in 1915 by Billy Murray with lyrics written by Bert Kalmar and music composed by Joe Cooper. “Green River” refers to a brand of whiskey popular at the time and is written from the perspective of a husband trying to explain to his wife why he was drinking all night.

It is certainly an appropriate vibe for Dandadan Overall, Momo and Okarun have spent their nights fighting wild ghosts and aliens in mind-blowing fashion. And it’s just another fact of what makes this anime so special. The original by Yukinobu Tatsu.
