Pedestrian dies after being hit by car on Mitchell County road

CAMILLA, Ga. (WALB) – A man died after being hit by a car on GA-112 in Camilla on Tuesday, October 22.

According to Mitchell Coroner Robby Willis, a call about the incident came in around 7:13 p.m.

Willis told WALB the incident occurred in the area where GA-112 splits with GA-97.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), a 2021 Hyundai was heading north on GA-112.

At the time of the accident, the victim was standing in the middle of the road, in an unlit area, picking up tree branches that had fallen from his trailer.

The Hyundai hit the pedestrian with the front of the car.

Upon impact, the victim struck the windshield, rolled off the front of the vehicle and landed on the road.

After the impact, the vehicle came to a controlled final rest.

Coroner Willis identified the victim as 67-year-old Willie Norris King.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the second time a pedestrian has been struck and killed by a vehicle in a month in Mitchell County.

In September, WALB reported that Amos Anderson, 88, killed in hit-and-run in Pelham while cleaning your garden and the surrounding areas near your home. Currently the SPG Searching for the suspect involved in the accident..

We are waiting for GSP to confirm if the driver will be charged.
