Tottenham are Premier League comeback kings: how Spurs fought back to win at home, again

The entire Tottenham team got the result they deserved against Villa, but I was especially pleased that Solanke was rewarded with two goals for his excellent individual performance.

He joined Tottenham for £65m in the summer after a wonderful campaign for Bournemouth, but has had a shaky start this season with Spurs, which may happen.

All players need a bit of time to adapt to a new club, but I think some fans wondered if he was the right signing or too expensive because he missed a chance against Arsenal in his first game back from injury, and some people judged him out of it.

I never really had much doubt about him because, every time I’ve seen him play this season, his link-up play was good and his off-ball work was phenomenal – his pressing is as good as in the Premier League and probably one of the reasons why the ones the Spurs wanted him for.

I love seeing someone work so hard, but I think the other reason he has so many fans is that he’s not a complainer, a jumper or a cheater, like many forward players today are. Someone might read this and say well, I saw him do this or that last year, and there may have been a few occasions, but what I’m saying is that it’s not part of his game.

So there are a lot of things to like about Solanke, but as we all know, ultimately all forwards are judged by their goals, which is why Sunday was so important for him after going six games without scoring.

If it hadn’t happened already, this was the day Tottenham fans embraced him and he showed them exactly the player he is.

I heard them chant his name after their first goal, and again after the second too, and if they didn’t fully appreciate it before this match, they definitely will now.

He embodied the team’s work ethic and combined it with a brilliant center forward performance in front of goal.

I understand why there will always be criticism of this Spurs team when they keep trying to play in such a positive way and lose, because there is a constant conversation about whether Postecoglou’s philosophy means there is only one way they can play.

The debate about whether they need to adapt will continue but, right now, when you see the opportunities they have, it’s perfect for Solanke. He will have opportunities playing in this system and he is good enough to take advantage of them.
