Sissons, Stamkos, Josi and Saros help Predators overcome Avalanche

Saturday night was a night of firsts in many ways for the Nashville Predators during their 5-2 win at Bridgestone Arena against the Colorado Avalanche.

Colton Sissons scored his first goal of the season, giving the Predators a 2-1 lead with 1 minute, 20 seconds left in the second period. Marc Del Gaizo got his first assist of the season with the goal.

Captain Roman Josi followed with his first goal of the season, this one a power play, with 14:45 left in the third to give the Predators a 3-1 lead.

A goal by Cale Makar just three minutes into the second period gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead. But Steven Stamkos’ power play score tied the score at 1-1 with 11:29 left in the second.

Nathan MacKinnon’s goal with 2:16 left in the third brought the Avalanche within one. But an empty-net goal from Filip Forsberg just over a minute later restored the lead to two. Gustav Nyquist added another empty-net goal for the final score.

Juuse Saros made 28 saves for the Predators (4-6-1). The Avalanche fell to 5-7-0.

Nashville may have turned in its worst performance of the season in Thursday’s 5-1 loss to Edmonton. The loss ended a four-game point streak. The Preds have one more home game, against the Los Angeles Kings, before a road trip through mid-November.

Colorado has also had a mixed start to the season, although much of that is due to injury and a poor October for goaltender Alexandar Georgiev.

Follow live updates from the Tennessee Predators game below:

Filip Forsberg and Gustav Nyquist score empty-net goals to give Predators a three-goal lead

Filip Forsberg scored an empty-net goal with 1:14 left in regulation to give Nashville a 4-2 lead. It was his sixth goal of the season. Gustav Nyquist added another to seal the victory.

Nathan MacKinnon brings Avalanche within one late in third period

Nathan MacKinnon’s goal with 2:16 left in the third brought the Avalanche within one, 3-2. It was his sixth goal of the season.

Roman Josi’s first goal of the season gives Predators a 3-1 lead in third place

Roman Josi joined the ranks by scoring his first goal of the season with 14:45 left in the third period to give the Predators a 3-1 lead. Jonathan Marchessault and Steven Stamkos each had an assist on the play.

Colton Sissons’ first goal of the season gives Preds 2-1 lead in second place

Colton Sisson scored his first goal of the season with 1:20 left in the second period to put the Predators ahead 2-1. It was also Sissons’ first point of the season.

Marc Del Gaizo got his first assist of the season with the goal. Zachary L’Heureux also had an assist.

Steven Stamkos’ goal ties it 1-1 in the second

Fifteen seconds after John Ludvig was called for a 2-minute penalty against Filip Forsberg, Steven Stamkos tied the score at 1-1 with 11:29 left in the second period. It was his second goal of the season and was assisted by Roman Josi and Ryan O’Reilly.

Cale Makar’s goal puts Avalanche ahead 1-0 early in the second

Twenty-two seconds after the Predators’ second penalty of the second period, Avalanche defenseman Cale Maker pushed the puck past Juuse Saros on a 4-on-3 at 2:54 to give Colorado a 1-0 lead.

Filip Forsberg had barely sat in the penalty area for an infringement when Makar scored.

Predators and Avalanche do not score after a while

Aside from a few notable saves by Predators goalie Juuse Saros and one by Predators forward Filip Forsberg, the first period was largely empty.

Nashville had 10 shots on goal to Colorado’s eight.
