Winter Haven Police Search for Driver Accused of Hitting Officer Three Times

Police are searching for a man accused of hitting an officer’s vehicle that was stopped at a red light Saturday night.

The Winter Haven Police Department says the suspected hit-and-run driver, described as a white male, rear-ended the officer around 9:40 p.m. at Cypress Gardens Blvd. and 9th St. SE in winter shelter.

A woman was also identified in the passenger seat of the car, but officers say they could not clearly see the driver due to the Ford Mustang Mach-E’s tinted windows.

After hitting the officer the first time, the man crashed into the police cruiser two more times while attempting to take off eastbound on Cypress Gardens Blvd, according to the police department.

Deputies say they found the car, with crash damage to the front, outside the woman’s home in Lake Dexter. They say she admitted to being in the car at the time of the accident, but they still can’t identify the driver.

No other information about the woman was provided. Officers say the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information about the crash or driver to contact the Winter Haven Police Department at 863-401-2256.
