A woman defends an attacker with a dog leash

The man grabbed the woman, but she screamed and threw the dog leash at him, causing him to run away.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is investigating the possibility that this attack is linked to an attack that occurred on Friday in Drumahoe.

Police searched the area after Saturday’s attack, but the man had left the area.

The suspect is believed to have headed in the direction of Corrody Road.

He is described as a white man in his 20s, around 5ft 11ins (1.83m) tall, of slim build and wearing all black.

The attacker reportedly had his hoodie pulled tightly around his face.

In a statement, Dt Insp Ross Olphert said: “We understand that there will be concern in the community about a second knifepoint attack on a woman in just two days, and this latest occurred during daylight hours, however, I can assure you to residents that focused action “A tactical patrol plan is in place, including a high-visibility police presence in key areas such as our local parks, and there will be an increased police presence across the city in the coming days.”

The PSNI has said investigations are continuing to establish whether there is a link between the two attacks in County Londonderry.

Police said there is no link between the two weekend attacks and previous attacks in the city center last week.

Police have asked anyone with information to come forward.
