A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 74-year-old man was seriously injured in County Antrim, police said.

The couple approached the pensioner on Station Road, in Antrim town, shortly after 19:30 GMT on Saturday.

The pensioner received a punch to the head that left him unconscious.

He was taken to hospital for treatment for serious head injuries and remains in critical condition.

A 21-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
