Out or not out? Rishabh Pant’s sacking in Mumbai leaves fans divided

Fans were left completely divided on social media after Ajaz Patel dismissed Rishabh Pant in a risky manner in the second innings of the Mumbai Test on Sunday, November 3. Pant was dismissed by Ajaz in the 22nd over when the Indian batsman tried to defend by coming down the track. The ball would hit his pads and rise into the air directly into Tom Blundell’s hands.

The on-field decision was thrown out and New Zealand decided to use the only remaining review in an attempt to overturn the decision. The snicko showed a spike when the ball was close to the pads, but Pant argued that his willow had hit his pads at the same time. However, the third umpire would say it was a deflection of the bat and awarded the wicket to New Zealand.

Pant was completely dejected by the call and began the long walk back to the pavilion, where he continued to argue that he had not touched the ball with the bat.

The decision would certainly divide fans on social media – some would side with Pant, while others would feel he was ruled out. Many felt that the third umpire had taken the wrong decision and Pant was robbed in the end.

While some said he was out of the question, they also praised Pant for his brave knock on a track where the Indian batting order crumbled on Day 3. You can see some of the reactions below:

Rishabh Pant’s fantastic series against New Zealand

Despite his dismissal and his manners, Pant can be happy with the job he has done in the 3 matches against New Zealand. In 6 innings, Pant ended up scoring 261 runs at an average of 52.20 and an excellent strike rate of 89.69.

Pant took the field in Mumbai on Sunday with the Indian chase in complete disarray. India had lost 3 wickets in just 18 runs and fell further to 29 for 5. The Indian wicketkeeper would score his fifty in just 48 balls and was the last hope for India to get a victory.
