India 0-3 New Zealand: Rohit Sharma’s men fall to record low at home

New Zealand wrote history by becoming the first team to beat India 3-0 in a three-match Test series on Indian soil. India lost the third and final Test in Mumbai by 25 runs and fell to a humiliating result that brought down the proud record, which until October was the envy of the world.

India had won 18 home Test series in a row since recovering from a 2-1 loss to England in December 2012. However, the streak ended in Pune when New Zealand punched above their weight and surprised the men. by Rohit Sharma.

IND v NZ, 3rd Test in Mumbai: Highlights

Ironically, India’s biggest fall in the history of Test cricket came at the Wankhede Stadium, the venue where they lifted the ODI World Cup 13 years ago.

“It’s New Zealand’s greatest performance in a Test match in the history of our game,” former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull told the broadcasters, beaming with pride and highlighting the enormity of the achievement.

India had not lost a home Test series since 2012 before New Zealand began touring in October. And for the first time, India failed to win a single Test in a home series with more than two Tests. Rishabh Pant’s brave knock went in vain on Day 3 as New Zealand capitalized on Ajaz Patel’s heroics to create history.

The warning signs must be taken seriously as India risks missing out on a place in the World Test Championship final for the first time since the format was introduced in 2019. With their confidence and ego bruised, India will face a difficult task when they tour Australia to compete in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
