Hong Kong’s Correctional Services Department (CSD) has vowed to bravely resist any form of violent intimidation following a recent gang attack on an officer, its commissioner said after visiting the injured employee.

Correctional Services Commissioner Wong Kwok-hing condemned Sunday’s violent attack during his visit to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong, and confirmed that the officer was in stable condition.

“The CSD strongly condemned the illegal violence and we believe that the attackers brazenly defied the rule of law and undermined social order,” he said.

“Every Department of Correctional Services colleague is a professional law enforcement officer and will never fear any type of violent threat.

“The CSD will maintain its position and act in accordance with the law to ensure that the institution maintains good order and discipline.“

But Wong declined to explain whether the officer was attacked because of a personal dispute with the attackers, saying the case was still under investigation and it was inappropriate to reveal more details.

“We will continue to cooperate with police investigations and hope that the perpetrators of this crime are arrested as soon as possible,” he said.
