The convent is being held without bail. He is scheduled to have a hearing on the attorney’s status next Monday.

York’s only daughter, Amber Stotler, sat down with KY3 on Saturday. Stotler said he remembers his father as the kindest man he has ever met.

“My dad made a difference as much as he could… anywhere he could,” Stotler said.

Stotler said his family held his funeral in Oak Grove Park because that’s where his father spent a lot of time with other members of Springfield’s homeless community.

“I only see the people who showed up today. How much the community cared about him makes my heart smile so much,” he said.

Michael Scharpf is a volunteer at Connecting Grounds and has helped York on many occasions when he needed food and a place to stay. Scharpf said York always put others first in the homeless community, even though York was homeless.

“He didn’t accept any help until we helped all the people he saw around him, and he (York) started pointing out, ‘There’s a couple on that bridge who are probably going to need food, there’s a couple over there.’ If they ask for money, they’re probably going to need a ride,’” Scharpf said.

As for the murder, Stotler said that although she has not yet forgiven Nunnery for killing her father, she knows her father would not want her to take revenge on him.

“It felt so good when he decided to commit that crime against my dad,” she said. “The justice system will figure out how it should work.”
