georgia football Outside linebacker Chaz Chambliss turned to the recent history of the Bulldogs’ defense in preparing for Take on Florida and its rookie quarterback DJ Lagway on Saturday in Jacksonville.

“We’ve had problems in the past with running quarterbacks,” he said. “We have to prepare and know what is coming.”

Alabama’s Jalen Milroe threw for 374 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 117 yards and two more scores against Georgia in the Bulldogs’ 41-34 loss. Mississippi State’s Michael Van Buren, who can extend plays with his legs, threw for 306 and three touchdowns and was not sacked in Georgia’s 41-31 victory.

Lagway, who has two starts this season, has four rushes of 10 or more yards this season, according to cfbstats.com, with a career-high 22 all season.

“As an athlete, you really have to stay in coverage because he can throw it and he can run it out,” safety Malaki Starks said. “You have to be really disciplined with your rush and also with your coverage.”

Lagway threw for 259 yards on 7-of-14 passing with one interception in a 48-20 win against Kentucky on Oct. 19 at the crocodiles‘last game.

“He’s got great size,” coach Kirby Smart said. “He has great arm strength. He has very good mobility in the pocket. He has a great offense around him. They do a good job, running the ball and setting up off-running shots. “When you’re stubborn in executing it, then you open yourself up to a lot of action shots.”

Freshman Jaden Baugh rushed for 106 yards and five touchdowns on 22 carries against Kentucky.

Georgia held Texas to just 259 yards of total offense in its 30-15 loss over then-No. 1 Texas in its last game, but the Bulldogs still rank sixth in the SEC in total defense at 304.9 yards per game. .
