Pittsburgh ‘Hamas operative’ allegedly bought explosives, vandalized Jewish buildings and donated them to the Democratic Squad

PITTSBURGH — Steel City has a would-be Hamas terrorist in its ranks, and it likes it Democrats Squad.

The FBI and Pittsburgh police on Wednesday arrested two Pittsburgh-area residents on hate crimes charges for allegedly damaging or defacing Jewish buildings in July.

Surprisingly, one of those individuals, Mohamad Hamad, a self-identified “Hamas operative,” purchased and tested explosive materials for a future fireball and was a member of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard stationed near Pittsburgh International Airport, according to the report. criminal complaint.

The dual American and Lebanese citizen also donated to the Democratic Squad that called Israel’s year-long war in Gaza a genocide and pushed for the United States to impose an arms embargo on the Jewish state as it fights Iran and its terrorist proxies.

Talya Lubit, accused of being Hamad’s Jewish accomplice by painting pro-Hamas graffiti on a synagogue and Jewish community center, called Jews “enemies” and advocated for the county council to pass a controversial ceasefire resolution against Israel. and joined a letter defending Rep. Summer Lee, a member of Pittsburgh’s anti-Israel squad, who last month blamed Israel for the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack on its one-year anniversary.

“In Pittsburgh, we have seen an infiltration of the Democratic Party by anti-Israel extremists who frequently attack the Jewish community,” Jeremy Kazzaz, executive director of the nonprofit Beacon Coalition that fights anti-Semitism, told The Post. in the political sphere.

The terrifying charges come after three Jewish students at the University of Pittsburgh were assaulted last semester, and 62% of Jews nationwide are concerned about antisemitism in the Democratic Party.

“Imagine the terror they would see if they had cameras. A Hamas agent tears down their flags in the white suburbs,” Hamad, from Coraopolis northwest of Pittsburgh, told an FBI acquaintance via Signal.

The encrypted messaging app is similar to Telegram, which Hamas members used to share first-person videos of the October 7 attack, in which more than 2,000 armed terrorists invaded southern Israel and killed and kidnapped more than 1,400. people.

Hamad used Signal to share his wish to die as a martyr for Islam.

He sent a likely photo of himself wearing a green headband with the Hamas logo and a black sweatshirt that said: “RESPECT EXISTENCE OR EXPECT RESISTANCE” and sent a message: “my heart longs to be with my brothers abroad.”

Emails show he purchased two pounds of Indian Black aluminum powder and two pounds of potassium perchlorate used to form explosives.

And the messages show that Hamad made plans to ignite a “large projectile” on July 6 as a test for a future explosion and enjoyed the video shared the next day of “what appears to be the detonation of an explosive device and the corresponding ball of fire.” fire,” FBI Special reported. Agent Brian Collins reported.

After reading the criminal complaint, Kazzaz feared that Hamad was plotting to attack the Jewish community in Pittsburgh.

Hamad also sent a message to Lubit, a Jewish activist who lives in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, about spraying graffiti on Jewish buildings in the days before red paint splattered the Chabad of Squirrel Hill synagogue on July 29 with the words “Jews 4 Palestine” and an inverted triangle. a symbol that Hamas has used to mark Israeli targets in Gaza.

“I can literally feel myself starting to see Jews as my enemies,” the recent graduate of Dickinson College in central Pennsylvania messaged Hamad the night before the vandalism, also sending a group chat an image of The Israeli flag with a Nazi swastika in the center. under the alias “Warsaw,” the complaint alleges.

“Every day I think, ‘I don’t want to be Jewish anymore,’” she told Hamad, finding that conflicts with “being against oppression.”

Kazzaz said that this vision of the world, divided between oppressors and oppressed, “led to the radicalization of two people from very different backgrounds” not only to destroy Jewish buildings but also for Hamad to “obtain explosive materials, try to build bombs, aspire to martyrdom ”.

And Kazzaz argued that Democratic elected officials have fueled the danger with anti-Israel and anti-Semitic rhetoric.

“The way Summer Lee views the world and has used her bully pulpit has legitimized these extremists,” Kazzaz said of the freshman congresswoman who calls Israel’s war for survival a “genocide” and advocates resistance.

“That allows them, in some perverse way, to justify acts of terrorism against random innocent people,” he said.

“Jews are always seen as oppressors in this binary.”

Both Hamad and Lubit are connected to anti-Israel politics and are members of the Democratic Party squad.

Hamad also sent $5 to Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib in April, after Congress censured the Palestinian-American congresswoman in November 2023 for defending Hamas’s attack on Israel’s “apartheid government” as “endurance.”

Lubit was one of several people from the Jewish community who signed a letter. defending leewho called for a ceasefire 11 days after the Oct. 7 massacre, after some 40 Jewish leaders called on Lee to show solidarity with Israel.

“If this is a war, it didn’t start on October 7,” Lubit said in March to advocate for a county council resolution seeking a ceasefire in Israel, foreshadowing Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey’s Lee statement , and Allegheny County Executive Sara. Innamorato blames Israel for the October 7 massacre.

“This is the dangerous situation that many of us in this situation have been trying to convey to elected officials and our neighbors: that the use of violent rhetoric, the misuse of language and the support of old anti-Semitic tropes makes us already our community less safe,” Kazzaz said.

He blamed Democrats pandering to pro-Palestinian voters to win elections for empowering these anti-Israel voices in the party.

Although Sen. Bob Casey condemned Lee’s statement blaming Israel for the deadliest day since the Holocaust, the Pennsylvania Democrat continues to back Lee, leading many Jewish Democrats to consider voting for your republican opponent Dave McCormick.

“When (Democrats) put party before country, they are sweeping these dangers under the rug. And these arrests are a reflection of that,” Kazzaz said.

“Jewish hatred can transform into really dangerous and violent situations.”
