The Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair returns this November, bringing a world of flavors and craftsmanship to the city’s wine enthusiasts and trade professionals alike.

With the city government recently announcing a reduction in taxes on alcoholic beverages, the show comes at an exciting time for the industry, creating opportunities for growth and exploration.

With more than 600 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions, the event will serve as a meeting point for wine lovers, industry connoisseurs and curious visitors who want to delve deeper into the latest trends and products from around the world.

This year’s fair will be held from November 7 to 9 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEC). Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), it is expected to be a landmark event reflecting Hong Kong’s flourishing role as a regional hub for wine and spirits.

“The fair not only caters to a growing appreciation of wines in the region, but also takes advantage of recent tax reductions to attract buyers and traders from around the world,” said Sophia Chong, deputy chief executive of the HKTDC.

“Share from mainland China, for example, has increased by 60% compared to the previous year, highlighting the growing interest in the city’s wine trade,” he added.

The fair’s international reach brings together a variety of exhibitors, offering visitors the opportunity to sample wines from both the old and new world, along with spirits from all corners of the globe. From fine European wines to new offerings from Asia and America, the diversity on display is truly impressive.

One of the highlights of this year’s fair is the debut of Azienda Agricola Sciara 760 Metri Etna Rosso (stand: 3D-A06), a wine that tells a fascinating story of place.

Made by Stef Yim, a Hong Kong-born winemaker who set up a vineyard on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, this wine benefits from the unique combination of volcanic soil and high altitude conditions.

The result is a red wine with a rich and aromatic profile, which shows the complexity of the terrain from which it comes. The balance of red fruits and herbaceous notes make it a compelling option for those who appreciate wines with a deep connection to their environment.

Meanwhile, from the heart of mainland China comes Zhenjiu Zhen 30 (booth: 3D-C15), a baijiu from Guizhou province that represents the apogee of traditional aromatic sauce liquors.

Baijiu has been gaining global attention and Zhenjiu Zhen 30 is famous for its intricate layers of flavour, with a rich fermented aroma and lingering spices that leave a lasting impression. As interest in Chinese spirits continues to grow, this is an event to keep an eye on for those eager to explore new taste experiences.
