Faker breaks records for wins and audience

2024 League of Legends The World Championship, better known as World Cup 2024, was the most prestigious tournament in League of Legends esports.. It concluded the 2024 competitive season and pitted the 20 strongest teams in the world in a fierce battle for victory. While T1 takes the trophy, 2024 World Cup viewers also take home an important distinction: The 2024 World Grand Final between T1 and Bilibili Gaming is now the most-watched esports match in history.

T1 and Bilibili Gaming faced off on November 2, 2024 in the 2024 World Cup Grand Final. The event took place in a best-of-five format that was highly contested. Finally, T1 came out ahead in the fifth match to win against Bilibili 3:2, largely thanks to the good performances of mid laner Faker on GGalio. After winning the prestigious tournament, T1 are the 2024 World Cup champions and have five World Cup wins.

According to Esports Charts, the League of Legends Worlds 2024 Grand Final is the most-watched esports match in history, with over 6.9 million viewers at its peak.. Worlds 2024 continually broke its own viewership records during the previous Swiss, Qualifiers and Semi-Final stages, but the Grand Final record is more significant as it has secured this event a place in esports history.

The match also attracted more 3 million peak viewers on YouTube and 2.5 million on Twitch. In addition to significant attention from the English and Korean bases, Vietnamese viewership soared and played a role in the Grand Final’s peak metrics.

Many factors contributed to the appeal of the Grand Final, but perhaps the most important was the participation of T1 and Faker.. Iconic player Faker, who was recently inducted into Riot Games’ Esports Hall of Legends, is signed to T1 and is also a co-owner. He is widely considered the best player in League of Legends, and Esports Charts also notes that Faker was the most popular player in the record-breaking match. Twitch viewers mentioned it more than 23,000 times. T1 won the 2023 Worlds with Faker on its roster, and the esports world has waited in suspense to see if the team could achieve back-to-back wins and defend its title. T1’s victory means that Faker, as of Worlds 2024, has won five World Championships and is therefore one of the most decorated esports athletes of all time.

League of Legends esports seems to be going through a renaissance – the community is showing great interest in events and turning out in droves to watch them. If the upward trend continues, perhaps a back-to-back viewership record next year could follow T1’s back-to-back wins.
